8 Summer Reads That Will Change Your Life

The warmer summer months are the perfect time to sit back and catch up on some reading. I enjoy reading because I love to learn and think about different ideas and perspectives. A good book can often inspire me in more ways than one. That being said, I am a pretty busy person, so I find it really difficult to make time for reading.

For me, the act of reading can be similar to meditating, if I don’t prioritize it and make a special time for the practice within my schedule, It won't happen. At the same time, there’s days when I really feel called to read, and there are other times when flipping through a book doesn’t seem all that interesting. Most of the time, If I just get started reading I get sucked in and finish the book within a few days.

Every morning I make myself a cup of coffee, grab my book, and head outside to sit on my patio. This routine is a simple ritual that pushes me to do more reading. Since I don’t work in the summer, I have had an abundance of personal time. I am so thankful for this time of season. I use these moments on my patio to knock out a few chapters, unwind, and process what I’m reading.

My favorite genre is self help. However, I should narrow it down even more and explain that I typically only read spiritual self help books. I have been reaching for these types of books since I was a teenager. I can say with confidence that reading this type of content has made me happier, more aware, and more compassionate and understanding towards myself and others.

There is something magical about how reading allows anyone to tap into and understand obscure teachings from all over the world. Every time I read a new spiritual book I feel a little more awake. One thing never changes, I always want to share what I just read with everyone I know. Sadly, most of the time people aren’t interested. I know that if they set aside all biases and learned stereotypes and read a few pages, they would be intrigued and willing to read more.

Over the last couple weeks, I have spent my summer vacation finishing up some books that I started during the year. These reads have centered me and put me in a great state of mind. I am so happy I finally made time to sit down and read them through to the last page.

If you want to drastically change your perspective for the better, set an intention to read these books!
