Calling All Husbands & Wives! This course was made for you!
Did you know that most marriage problems are related to a lack of communication? It's true, and marriage troubles are more common than you think!
Unfortunately, the frequency of marital issues doesn't make them any easier for the men and women involved. On the contrary, these obstacles routinely instigate major conflicts between partners, which can ultimately lead to divorce.

Many couples know first hand, navigating & overcoming marital problems or threats of divorce can be emotionally draining, confusing, and scary. Nevertheless, the decision to acknowledge spousal issues + strive to solve them, is a momentus act that demonstrates love and support.
Hi, my name is Mykel Rochester, I am 33 years old, and I’ve been with my husband for 18 years. Surprisingly, we have been together for more than half of my life! This man knows me better than anyone, and has loved me through the good, bad, & the ugly. To explain, I met my husband when I was 15 and he was 17. We dated for four years before we got married, and we’ve been together ever since.
At first glance, our love story probably looks just about as perfect as it can get. It is true, I wouldn’t trade this relationship or my partner for anything or anyone else in this world, but that doesn’t mean our journey together has always been easy and effortless.
In fact, over the last couple decades my significant other and I have embraced change, and pursued growth together. Sometimes through clenched teeth and teary eyes, and other times with genuine smiles and sweet butterflies in our stomach’s. All the while, we have stayed true to the idea that soul mates will push each-other to become the best version of themself. Even when the path towards evolution involves hardship, upheaval, and discomfort. With this in mind, I strive to support my other half to the very best of my ability, and he does the same for me.

Although this has always been true for my husband and I in our relationship, this is not to say that we have not experienced major emotional upheavals and ups and downs over the years.

In fact, three years ago when I was finishing my undergraduate degree in psychology, my marriage was the rockiest it had ever been.
Thankfully, it was during this same period of time that I came across some incredibly valuable information, while writing a research essay for one of my classes.

While conducting research for the paper, I was intrigued to discover a common theme, echoed by marriage experts and counselors from all over the world.
In reading this material, my relationship troubles began to make more sense, as I was made aware of the most common + most detrimental behaviors a married couple can exhibit towards one another.
These maladaptive behaviors are intimacy killers and divorce catalysts, yet not all of these actions are obvious.
For this reason, these behaviors and their solution are not easily or reliably sourced on Google. Nor can they be quickly identified during a simply conversation with Siri and Alexa.

Yes, marriage is a personal journey between two people. Still, in the midst of conflict, sometimes the best decision is to consider what the experts have to share.

By all means, the answers that many married couples are searching for can only be found in expensive counseling sessions, or through extensive college degree programs.

But, shouldn't every person who genuinely wants to better their marriage have access to these concepts, recommendations, and remedies?

I believe they should.

What if I told you that the most prominent reason that people follow through with divorce, is that they are lacking the foundational skills that are often required to overcome emotionally charged conflicts.
Without this valuable insight, perspectives become skewed, and a lover's intimate connection becomes a mere memory.

Markedly, statistics highlight that 66% of Men and 74% of women think their partners should have worked harder to save the marriage (Forbes,2024)
It is important to understand, divorce doesn't always arise out of a lack of love. Certainly, people who are in love are still at risk for getting divorced.

The Managing Marriage Mini Course provides valuable information on how to overcome communication issues and other habitual marital problems. It also covers the differences between vital and devitalized marriages & normative and non-normative family stressors, while offering essential insights to help couples navigate their relationships with greater understanding and success.

I'll see you there!

How Many Marriages End in Divorce?
So, what about the famous statistic that half of all marriages end in divorce? That’s true, but only when it comes to first marriages, half of which are dissolved. Second and third marriages actually fail at a far higher rate.

How Long Does Divorce Take and How Much Does It Cost?
Divorces take time. Contested divorces usually take over a year to finalize—although simple divorces can be completed in as little as three months. Divorce comes at a big cost, with couples spending an average of $7,000 to dissolve their union.

Divorcees Are More Likely to Die Earlier Than Married People
Divorce can have surprising—and long lasting—consequences. One of those consequences is an increased risk of early death. Sadly, the mortality rate is 1,363 per 100,000 for divorcees compared with 779 per 100,000 for married couples.
Divorced men bear the brunt of this increased risk, with mortality rates of 1,772 per 100,000 compared to divorce women with mortality rates of 1,095 per 100,000.

69% of Divorces Are Initiated by Women
Women are far more likely than men to initiate divorce. In fact, nearly 7 in 10 marriage dissolutions are initiated by the female partner. This is based on research involving heterosexual couples.

Women often carry more of the mental load in a relationship, and also take on a primary caregiving role for children. The added burden they face—especially when they feel their support system is lacking—could help to explain why they are more likely to initiate divorce.
